Jeseníky Mountains – East
The wild landscapes of the Jeseníky Mountains dovetail with foothill areas and several towns. Here you will discover Praděd, the highest peak in the Jeseníky, the mysterious Petrovy Stones, Skřítek Pass, several waterfalls and many places of natural beauty including the strictly protected Velké kotliny.
If you’re longing for a break, why not visit the spa at Karlova Studánka. The climate there is regarded as one of the cleanest in the Czech Republic. Fans of historical sites can take tours of towns such as Bruntál and Rýmařov, industrial heritage sites and a whole array of castles and chateaux, the finest of which must be Sovinec Castle; or what about a trip on the oldest narrow-gauge railway in central Europe from Třemešná to Osoblaha? And even yachters, windsurfers and swimmers will find enjoyment at the Slezská Harta reservoir.
Karlova Studánka – The spa here is made up of timber buildings, their design influenced by the Empire style. In the spa park you’ll find an artificial waterfall and an exhibition of minerals from the Jeseníky Mountains. The iron-rich spring water is used for bathing and drinking as well as in the treatment of circulatory and respiratory ailments.
Sovinec Castle – This is a huge castle with defensive elements going back to the Thirty Years’ War. Over the centuries Sovinec has been used as a Hussite fortress, a prison and an SS headquarters. You can explore several courtyards and some of the interiors; there are lovely views of the Sovinecký nature park from the tower.
