Křivoklát Castle is one of the oldest and most significant castles of the Czech princes and kings. Its origins date back to the 12th century. In the summer of 2008, a unique new project was opened that bears the descriptive name of Blind Castle. The project involves a special tour for the blind and visually impaired that allows them to touch and feel parts of the castle and the exhibits. A special tour guide accompanies them, and they carry a small model of the castle so that they can visualise which part of the castle they have just passed through.

Křivoklát Castle was established around the year 1109 as a hunting lodge for Czech princes and kings. The castle is unique for its architecture and collection of neo- and late-Gothic art.
Presently, the Blind Castle project is the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic. The special tour guide provides a detailed description of the inside of the rooms of the castle. Visitors use sound and their intuition to improvise and discover the interesting surroundings, literally with their entire bodies.
The special guided tour route can also be taken by people who can see. Visitors have a choice of two tours. The visitor can make use of aural and tactile perception, movement in space, listening to descriptions, their own voice, and the like. You can navigate through one tour just the same as a blind person, if you have the courage to enter into complete darkness by covering your eyes with a blindfold. The Blind Castle Project will be extended to other landmarks in the Czech Republic (for example, Mníšek pod Brdy Chateau in 2008). The maximum number of visitors in a group is 12, and it is thus necessary to book in advance at www.prohlidky-pamatek.cz.
