Cheb Castle – the only remnant of a palatinate in the Czech Republic, with a unique double chapel

One of the three towers built in the Czech lands in honour of the German chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the Bismarck viewing tower stands on Zelená Hill near Cheb. The tower was opened in 1909 but later found itself in the shadow of the Iron Curtain as it stood in the border no-go zone during the Cold War.

The cultural and economic centre of West Bohemia is the town of Cheb. Few other towns can boast such fine sights as Cheb Castle with its Black Tower and the symbol of the town – the Špalíček alongside all the other well preserved townhouses, which create a special atmosphere on Cheb’s main square.
